Philosophy Conference at Henderson State University

By Amanda Holmes

So, I’ve packed a bag and I’m headed south to Arkansas for the weekend. I am going to be presenting a paper at the 2009 Arkansas Philosophy Conference at Henderson State University.

I’m excited about this for several reasons:

1- Two of my favorite people in the whole world will be there. I’ll be going to the conference with Marcella Russo, another SXU philosophy student and also one of my closest friends. Together, Marcella and I have a proclivity for excessive laughter. We are also both taking the GRE soon and studying vocabulary words a lot so we have the common propensity to use words like proclivity… and propensity, which basically mean the same thing. Anyway, we will be in the car for 13 hours together quizzing each other on GRE words and laughing a lot. Where. The. Party. At. Also, my friend Becky will be at the conference. Becky is an SXU alum and is in grad school in philosophy in Tennessee. I haven’t seen Becky in a year and a half so it is going to be great to see her again.

2- There are presumably lots of people who like philosophy at a philosophy conference. I like philosophy too so… that will be neat.

3- I am both excited and nervous to read my paper at the conference. I’ll be reading the first section of my senior thesis, a paper that I’ve been working on all semester. It will be helpful to get feedback on it, I just hope I don’t forget how to read or throw up or something.
Wish me luck!
