Softball Preview

By Mark Siefert

Welcome back to the Cougar den.

First off this week, I want to congratulate the men’s and women’s basketball team on terrific seasons and wonderful playoff runs. I really wish they both would have won national championships but I understand how these tournaments work, and it was tough to get as far as they both did.

I want to congratulate all the players who received individual awards from the conference to the national level. Lastly, thanks to all the seniors who gave four years of hard work here, including Angie Bush, Liz Carney, Erin Hannemann, Kathlyn McClain, Jamel Morten, Larry Pikes, Ken Black and Julian Scott.

Since basketball season is over, it is finally time to move into baseball and softball season. This week I will preview the softball team and preview baseball next week.

The Saint Xavier Softball team started out slow on the spring trip amid a mass amount of injuries, leaving many players out for a long amount of time. But after settling in, the team won six of their final seven spring trip games and got back over .500. Like most teams in the north, this was their first time outside due to the two feet of snow on the ground when they left to go south so I would say that they had a pretty good trip.

The team is led by a very strong sophomore and junior class, with the likes of Megan Paradzinski, Lisa Gryczewski, Courtney Murphy, Amy Kennedy, Amy Fairchild and Amy Brown. This Cougar Softball team should be very competitive in conference once again and has another great shot to make it to the national championships and not losing many players from last years team they look as though this may be their year to make a run at some hardware.

Good luck this year to Cougar softball and to all you fans out their check out some games.

Stay classy, Cougars.
