Changing of the Season

By Anthony Maziur

Hello again everyone…It’s a sad day this week because with the colder weather coming upon us faster and faster, one inevitable truth has occurred. Baseball season has officially ended. It is always a disappointing time of year when the baseball season ends. No more Baseball Tonight, the highlights on ESPN’s Top Ten will decrease, and no more games played on television on almost a daily basis. I was also disappointed in the finale of the 2010 baseball season because I did not want the Giants to win the World Series. I like the Rangers team and am a big fan of Josh Hamilton, considering he plays my position and is also left handed. They were my pick from the beginning of the playoffs and they were doing quite well up until they faced the Giants. Their offense was on fire against the Yankees the Giants have struggled with their offense all playoffs, not to mention the whole year! I guess this just goes to show you that pitching and defense are the key components to a championship team. Just glancing at the lineups of each team, a person who followed baseball would easily say that the Rangers have to more dominant lineup. For example the Giants have Juan Uribe batting sixth in their lineup and he hit ninth for the 2005 World Series White Sox. I will give the Giants credit though. As much as I do not like that team, they came out and scored runs when they had to, picked up the baseball, and had stellar pitching performances throughout the entire series. I wish the Rangers would have made it more exciting of a series, but that’s baseball sometimes. It will just be a long, boring, somewhat depressing winter waiting for the day that can never come soon enough, opening day! Spring 2011 brings much anticipation and many curious fans. How will the Cubs new manager, Mike Quade, fare with the team? Who will the top three free agents, Cliff Lee, Jayson Werth, and Carl Crawford, be playing for next year? That is part of the excitement about the upcoming year; nobody knows what the next season will hold. So to all you die hard baseball fans like me out there who are a little upset and don’t know what to do with their evenings, don’t worry, take this time to cheer on the Blackhawks and get ready for some crazy off season moves to be made around the MLB. This will make for a great start to the 2011 season. Time for me to get outta here. See you next week.

If you aint first, your last!
