Spring Break

By Genevieve Buthod

It’s Time for a Little Sunshine

So, who’s ready for spring break? It can’t be just me. It has been beyond dreary here for way too long, and I’m tired of shivering through my morning classes! I have been absolutely swamped with studying, last-minute planning meetings, and emergency shifts at work. I’m pretty sure it’ll be a miracle if I survive this week, but if I do, I’ll be heading home at last. I can’t wait to be going to the South, where the cities may not be as big, but at least they’re warmer!
I’m going to visit my whole family in Tulsa, OK over spring break. I am so excited to play good ol’ blues music with my cousins and spend quality time with some of my favorite people ever, my grandparents. It’s kind of weird, living in two different worlds. One half of me lives here at SXU and goes to class every day, and absolutely loves living in Chicago. But the other half of me still misses my huge family down there and can’t wait for summer.

It’s a very different college experience than most of my friends have, but at the same time, I think there are benefits to this unique straddling of two cities/states/lives. It’s not as convenient, and I don’t have the comfort of having any of my high school friends around all the time, but I wouldn’t trade this thrilling new adventure for anything. Being at SXU is like finding a new home, a place where everyone tries to help you feel welcome and accepted. I can’t wait to go home, but when the break’s over, I always look forward to coming back to Saint Xavier.
