Keep Calm and Enjoy the Last Leg

By Luci Farrell

Dear Bloggers,

The Easter Break, while short, is a break many in college long for. As we all can see the light at the end of the tunnel, exhaustion hits us. The Easter Break is the short time we get to go home, recuperate, and eat a home cooked meal. I also know some people that are going home to stock up on food as they watch their remaining meal plan dwindle. The usual reaction when I watch friends look at their remaining meal plan balance? “Curse you Starbucks!”

In these last few weeks now is the time to join together with your friends and create a power group. Come together to grab a study room for a change of scenery to increase productivity. Along with this if you have papers due, having friends in the same situation is even better. Swap papers for editing sessions. Even if you do not consider yourself an editing expert, having a second set of eyes to read a paper helps a lot. There are many times that they can point out simple word changes or ask you to explain a concept that ends up adding length to the paper. The other plus of a study group is pooling together all of your resources. Class notes, tips for presentations, and even pooling together meal plan money to eat. If everyone is low on meal plan money, throw in together to order pizza or Chinese. Anything that will last some time and is easy to share.

With this last leg here many of us find ourselves staring about our room wondering how we are going to manage to get all of our belongings home. That is another beautiful aspect of Easter Break. A bag of winter clothes (basically a bag full of sweaters) will accompany me home. While it may not seem like much, every bit helps. One bag of clothes gone means there will be one less bag to pack. My parents are coming to watch the Honors Senior Project Presentations on April 21st, and have told me they’ll bring home anything they would like me to. Wonderful! This means that hopefully by the time I graduate only the essentials will still be in my dorm. The essentials? My PS3, TV, books, and clothes that fit the weather will keep me company for the last weeks. Along with my other trusty out of state students that will also spend the week before graduation on campus.

So as you acknowledge this is indeed the last leg of the school year, enjoy yourself. Enjoy the weather, your friends, and if you’re graduating, enjoy the end of a chapter.

Keep Calm and Enjoy the Last Leg
